southland seascape 2009

Acrylic on boxed canvas......

this painting has layers upon layers of paint- the moulding of the sky and sea colours took me 2 weeks to finish..i m happy with the end product now but gosh ive used a 200 ml tube of white paint to mix !!!.( the reason why i take the pics on a angle is the light reflections makes a glare on the painting :)

EXPRESSIONIST SOUTHLAND LANDSCAPE

ACRYLIC ON BOXED CANVAS
2009
I guess this is more of a Central Otago scene..ive taken numerous photos of secluded dams at sunset.. trying to paint them in bold colours is another story..especially in acrylics -

Dusk Southern landscape

its cold this winter, so naturally one would paint snowy mountains with a colder atmosphere. one needs to feel the cold snow on your toes... and the wind in your wings - yes i was in the cold snow today- but its beautiful and i love it

Snowy mountain study with acrylics- s burger

This is small acrylic study. The process i am working on ,is to continue exploring acrylics to be used as oils and techniques thats more expressive. I want to go out into the landscapes and paint and finish a painting on the spot. that would be a little challenge for me!!

why the poppies?- NZ and red poppies goes hand and hand - - Anzac, RSA, etc..
Actually,my friend asked for a painting with poppies to brighten up living area..lets hope the snow does not bring to much of the chill factor into the room...;)

Southland landscape with poppies

Hi there
this is my tentative studio for the interim..(i think i should post a few photos of the different corners i had as a studio over the yonks!)
anyway- it took me months to finish this one- main reason was that i had a 6 months contract and we had to move from our little village into the bigg city of Dunedin..:D lol - so time did nt alow much creativity.
to the point- to the point of the painting.. I started playing with acrylics, but as you can see these hands want to do oils ...reallly..
Had to explore the medium though and realized one has to buy the best quality pigment with trial and error and use alot of different brands in the process. Especially with NZ colours, light etc.
This is a large, contempory style landscape with lots of textures!! There must be about 5 layers of background build up...(with paint underlays and not texture products)I am happy with the end product and gosh did it take a long time ( and lots of paint!) to be completely satisfied with the end product. Hope my friend likes it too..!
